Raglan Rebels lead singer and guitarist Gearoid McCarthy is one of Ireland’s finest young voices. An All-Ireland Champion Sean Nos singer in his youth, Gearoid has continually developed his music over recent years and now is a master of a wide range of genres. Having cut his teeth in the session scene in west Limerick, Gearoid became a full time professional musician at the age of 18 and has performed all over the world since then. As a founder member of the legendary Irish band, “Mad For Road”, Gearoid enjoyed significant fame through their exposure on Irish TV when they reached the final of “The All Ireland Talent Show” – Ireland’s version of the X Factor. Gearoid cites his performance in front of 35,000 people at the Rose of Tralee festival in 2011 as one of his career highlights.
Dublin based Richard Pyne started playing music when he was ten years old. He plays the tenor banjo, tenor guitar, mandolin and mandola. Richard has won county, provincial and all Ireland titles both as a solo player and in duets, trios and grupa ceoils. He has toured Germany, Spain, Poland, Belguim, France and England in Europe and spent the summer of 2012 gigging throughout Chicago and Milwaukee. He has also played at Áras an Uachtarán for President Mary McAlesse on two occasions. Richard is a member of Dublin based band ‘The Liffey Banks’ and has appeared with the band on numerous occasions on local and national radio stations most notably Kieran Hanrahan’s RTE radio 1 Ceili House, The Derek Mooney Show as well as RTE’s 2007 Fleadh Ceoil Programme. Richard now plays weekly on the Irish House Party Dance Show and is a resident musician in Dublin’s Temple Bar gig scene. Richard is heavily involved in teaching music as well and now teaches three nights a week, both privately and in Comhaltas headquarters in Monkstown.
Monaghan accordion player Patrick McGrane is one of the most exciting young players to emerge from the county in recent years. A multiple time Ulster and All-Ireland Champion, he brings huge drive and energy to the Raglan Rebels. Since January 2011 he has performed as a member of the critically acclaimed Irish folk band ‘Luna’ who have enjoyed huge success both domestically and internationally. 2013 has been a very busy year for Paddy as he performed as lead accordion player with the touring production ‘Rhythm of the Dance’ on a tour of America and went straight from there into the rehearsal studio for the Raglan Rebel’s debut album. Described by many people as having ‘the fastest fingers in Ireland’, Paddy is undoubtedly one of the finest exponents of the button accordion that Ireland has ever produced.
Robbie Walsh is recognised as one of the foremost Bodhran players and percussionists of his generation. As a multiple time All-Ireland Champion he has performed throughout the world and alongside some of the biggest names in Irish music such as Donal Lunny (Moving Hearts), Paul Kelly (Sharon Shannon Band), Maurice Lennon (Stockton’s Wing) and Alan Doherty (Lord of the Rings Soundtrack and Grada). He has performed on the Late Late Show on Irish TV which is the world’s longest running primetime chat show. Even recognised by instrument makers, Robbie has his own line of Bodhran drums as well as ‘tippers’ from the renowned ‘Metleof Drum’ manufacturer.
